Transdev Electronics Technician in Fairfax, Virginia

Overview

The Electronics Technician is responsible for troubleshooting and ensuring all on-board Intelligent Transportation Technology (ITS) and electronic components are function properly.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

  • The Electronics Technician will be responsible for troubleshooting and ensuring all on-board Intelligent TransportationTechnology(ITS) and electronic components are functioning properly.

  • Diagnose bus electronic revenue collection equipment programs using a variety of diagnostic equipment including the multi-meter, laptop, computer, schematics and wiring diagrams on site or on road calls.

  • Technologies include but are not limited to closed-circuit television, automated passenger counters, destination signs, traffic signal priority devices, Clever Device Intelligent Vehicle Network, public announcement speakers, ticket validation devices and fareboxes.

  • Inspects and tests all bus electronics and determine the appropriate course of action for repairs.

  • Determine the need for new parts. Tracks and reviews repair information from files or exiting fleet defects on parts under warranty.

  • Plans and performs necessary operations for resolving issues with on-board technology.

  • Reassembles, replace, and test new components of on-board electronics.

  • Tests on-board electronics and technology equipment through the use of a variety of precision instruments and computerized diagnostic equipment.

  • Documents all work performed in RTA software system.

  • Other duties as assigned to ensure that equipment runs efficiently.

Qualifications

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical, mechanical or information technology preferred.

  • 3+ years’ experience utilizing various software or technology used on the job, as well as a background in business management.

  • 3+ years’ experience working with electro-mechanical devices and technical equipment.

  • Ability to read and understand electrical and electronic schematics, drawings and wiring diagrams to assemble and wire electrical components.

  • Knowledge of electronics and technology components on a bus.

  • Knowledge of RTA software system.

  • Knowledge of tools, materials, and equipment used in automotive and electronic repairs, maintenance and service.

  • Ability to use computers and laptop software in diagnosing vehicle issues.

  • Experience in assembly and testing of electronic components in transit vehicle systems.

  • Demonstrate awareness of safety requirements in assigned work areas and follow company and industry safety rules.

  • Knowledge in working with wiring and soldering wires.

  • Familiarity with ITS systems including but not limited to CCTV, APC devices, TSP devices CAD/AVL and destination signs.

  • Demonstrate ability to identify and understand problems and to determine the appropriate measures it takes to solve problems.

  • Considerable interpersonal skills, including the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

  • Ability to maintain a variety of complex records and to prepare reports.

  • Excellent communication skills both written and oral.

  • Must submit to drug testing and a background check.

  • Exposure to heavy traffic areas while performing the duties of the job.

  • Exposure to considerable amounts of dust, vehicle fumes and noise.
