About the Role:

Director of Labor Relations will perform complex professional and administrative work as one of Transdev's chief negotiators, collaborating closely with our operations, finance, and human resources functions, among others to secure labor harmony with ratified CBAs that are negotiated within the economic parameters determined by the company. The responsibilities include strategic planning with the internal partners, strong coordination and communication of language provisions with the local and corporate functional teams, as well as, thorough follow-through to ensure that negotiated contract provisions are implemented in a timely manner. Additionally, responses to NLRB and/or other regulatory functions related to Labor are a major element of this role.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborates with other functional areas including operations, HR, finance, legal and communications; develops creative solutions to improving the work environment and labor relations

  • Understands labor relations issues and grievance trends for the organization; develops approaches and solutions to pro-actively address negative trends

  • Maintains a complete understanding of national and regional employment legislation matters; coaches’ leaders on the latest trends impacting the organization

  • Maintains a complete understanding of national and regional compensation, perquisites, benefits, and work practices; directs communication campaigns to ensure that employees understand work environment expectations and available services

  • Develops and manages the annual operating plan for labor relations

  • Coaches and mentor’s managers, leaders, and human resource managers and directors on labor relations, enhancing the work environment, and maintaining healthy relationships with and among employees

  • Recruits, selects, develops, manages, motivates, coaches, and mentors’ managers and director; provides guidance and direction on problems and issues; delegates work assignments considering employee skills and development needs

  • Maintains confidentiality of all information

  • Ability to represent and present the company’s position in a grievance/arbitration

  • Other duties as required

Qualifications

Education, Licensing, and Certifications : Bachelor’s degree in Labor Relations, Human Resources or related business field required. JD is preferred but not required

Experience : Seven (7+) or more years of relevant labor relations experience in a union environment required. Five (5+) or more years of managerial experience required.

Skills and Knowledge Required:

  • Must have a thorough understanding of National Labor Relations Act, progressive discipline process, negotiating strategy, economics of a labor contract, strike situations, and communication requirements

  • Comprehensive knowledge of labor relations rules and regulations at the federal and state level

  • Familiarity with costing a labor contract

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office suite

  • Thorough knowledge of industry labor relations practices

  • Ability to build relationships with internal teams, clients, and union leadership

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

  • Excellent negotiation skills

  • Ability to work with all levels of the organization

  • Highly organized

  • Must be able to work shifts or flexible work schedules as needed

  • 100% of work is accomplished indoors and in air conditioned or well ventilated facilities

  • The employee is generally subjected to long periods spent sitting, typing, or looking at a computer screen

Travel requirement outside of immediate area (as a percent): 50%
