Transdev’s Senior Self-Driving Vehicle Operators are responsible for testing the newest iteration of software before it becomes available for the General Ops Fleet. Canary Drivers are expected to provide the highest level of detailed feedback for the developers. He/she is expected to collaborate with release managers, dispatchers and other canary drivers for program work and troubleshooting, as necessary; compile changes between the software iterations, as well as verifying the changes on the log.

The Senior Self-Driving Vehicle Operator is the bridge between the developers and the Ops fleet; which will require translating technical jargon and providing clarifications for Ops drivers to understand.

It is important to maintain a high level of professionalism and responsibility when critiquing new operator’s driving abilities. Safety is our #1 responsibility. Trainers and instructors are expected to uphold this in all situations.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain Transdev’s high standard of safety, inside and outside of the vehicle;

  • Consistently demonstrate situational awareness, an understanding of the technology in his/her care, and a willingness to constantly adjust to changes in the environment;

  • Be the deputy for technology by communicating courteously always with management, engineers, and the public;

  • Assist software progress by testing new features;

  • Document recurring issues of new software and any potential bugs;

  • Following weekly release emails and bug reports to stay up to date;

  • Communicating with Release Managers to understand new fixes and features;

  • Informing Ops about changes when there is a new software release;

  • Setting the tone and example for less experienced Operations Drivers;

  • Operate a vehicle 6-8 hours a day alone, five days a week; able to sit still for long periods of time;

  • Monitor multiple software systems with constant focus;

  • Provide concise, clear, and accurate verbal and written feedback regarding the vehicle’s operations;

  • Complete daily reports and document procedures and tests.

  • Comply with Transdev’s Autonomous Vehicle Division zero-tolerance policy regarding the use of alcohol or drugs by self-driving vehicle operators during a shift, including randomized drug testing; and

  • Other duties as required

Qualifications

Education, Licensing, and Certifications Required :

  • Must be 21 years old;

  • BS/BA degree in a related field like industrial or applied sciences, or 6 years of relevant job experience; and

  • Meets driver requirements, including driving record and criminal history under applicable regulations and laws in the state of Michigan.

Experience :

  • 3 months of Autonomous Vehicle Testing experience preferred;

  • Proficiency with a laptop computer and GSuite apps (i.e. Gmail, Hangouts, and Driver, including Sheets and Docs);

  • Proficiency with using a touchscreen smartphone (Android preferred by not required); and

  • Must be able to type at least 40 adjusted wpm

Skills and Knowledge Required:

  • Must have good attention to detail and be able to quickly and concisely describe their thoughts;

  • Capable of responding quickly and simultaneously to multiple scenarios;

  • Adapt quickly to new and developing technology;

  • Cross-functional verbal and written communication and issue escalation;

  • Must be able to multitask multiple technologies, including communications devices and vehicle status systems

  • Must be able to work specific shifts, including early mornings, evenings, and/or weekends, as well as overnight shifts and travel for up to one month;

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; and

  • Must be self-motivated and demonstrate good judgement, in fast-paced, high stress environments.

  • Must currently reside in or be willing to relocate (without relocation compensation) to the Novi, MI or surrounding area.

  • Most work is accomplished outdoors in a vehicle.
