The Operations Manager reports directly to the General Manager in fulfilling daily operations including but not limited to route supervision, staff and operator supervision, effective communication with internal and external customers and coaching employees for optimal performance, managing the entire operation in the absence of the General Manager, complying with all Company policies, and managing the operation within the budgetary plan for the location.
Conduct a walk around the premises prior to beginning the day’s activities to evaluate the operation. This will include making documentation of items related to safety, checking parking conditions, random inspection of buses, cleanliness of the location, office and shop conditions, and all other items related to this evaluation.
Supervises A.M./P.M. sign in boards to ensure all routes run on time.
Monitors radio communications during route times. Ensures that delays in service are recorded and communicated to the customer. In addition, makes sure all accidents or breakdowns are handled appropriately.
Monitor’s operator absence and tardiness. Initiates appropriate disciplinary action in a manner consistent with company/location policy.
Is available at the dispatch counter after A.M. routes to assist operators with questions or problems. Supervises the communication of operator concerns or route changes with the Customer.
Assists the manager in meeting customer requirements. Follow up on all customer issues in a timely manner.
Monitors the master sign in sheets and equipment list to make sure all operator changes, equipment changes, and report times are current and accurate.
Assists the Director of Operations with supervision of location staff. Communicates job requirements and expectations. Monitors the performance of staff and provides coaching and guidance as required.
Receives applications, performs initial screening with Safety and Training Manager (including physical and drug test scheduling) and conducts interviews as required to maintain an adequate supply of operators.
Ensures that Transdev meets all Affirmative Action and ADA requirements. Enforces Transdev’s commitment to Affirmative Action with employees, vendors, veterans, and disabled applicants.
Assists in problem solving and human resources with regard to Transdev employees, taking the initiative to ‘make things better’ and promote the ‘Preferred Employer’ philosophy at the location.
Takes corrective action with an employee who fails to meet company policy or customer policy/standards.
When required, the Operations Manager shall assist the manager in new hire orientations. Orientations must be conducted before an employee takes charge of their position.
The Operations Manager shall be fully trained and capable of running other departments in the event of a vacancy.
Works closely with the Director of Operations to monitor location’s business plan. Assist with end of the month profit and loss register/summary reports, assist in developing location business plan and conduct financial analyses of the operation.
In conjunction with the Safety and Training Manager, ensures all federal, state, local and company recordkeeping requirements are met.
In conjunction with Safety and Training Manager, acts as a contact person for the controlled substance program. This includes pre-employment, random drug and alcohol, and reasonable suspicion.
Performs any other management requests or directives as they relate to the overall function of Transdev. In addition, shall maintain the appropriate license requirement to drive a route as necessary to complete the day’s activity.
Other duties as assigned to ensure the efficient operation of the contract and Transdev Transportation.
High school diploma or equivalent. BA/BS in transportation or logistics preferred.
5+ years operations experience in a safety sensitive environment.
5+ year’s previous supervisory/management experience.
Experience developing or managing a budget.
Experience working in a fast-paced, high pressure environment.
Experience dealing with the Union and working in the transportation industry a must.
Must be able to demonstrate poise, tact, diplomacy and possesses good judgment and discretion.
Must possess ability to lead and motivate employees.
Experience dealing with federal, state, and local agencies (i.e., DOT, FTA, OSHA, etc.).
Excellent communication skills both written and oral.
Proven adult training skills and ability to make presentations a must.
Detail oriented, well organized, and possess effective time management skills.
Proven customer service and interpersonal skills a must.
General knowledge of Windows-based computer operating system and Microsoft office package.
Must be able to work as a member of the team.
Ability to interact professionally with internal and external customer on all levels and be able to work well with diverse groups.
Must be able to work flexible hours or shifts.
